Default Microsoft ordered in lawsuit to cease selling MS Word

http://www.usatoday.com/tech/news/20...-lawsuit_N.htm

This could be pretty ridiculous

Surprised that a US judge ruled in favor of the smaller company. But ya, not horribly surprised that M$ stole it.

ehh, i doubt anything comes of it. like the article said, it's not like this is unfamiliar territory for microsoft, or that they are inexperienced in court.

that being said, a $200 million out-of-court settlement spread out among a 30-employee company would be a sweet end-of-year bonus.

Ya unless M$ simply buys them out. That is a good possibility too.

They can get another judge to put a stay on that court order I think.

I can't see Microsoft losing out in this, I really can't.

Reminds me of the Simpsons, when Bill Gates decides to buy out Compuglobalhypermeganet.

MS didn't steal it.

Company suing MS is patent troll and its victory is serious problem for everyone, especially Open Office which would infringe exactly same patent. And pretty much any text editor made to work with open document standard.

PS: How come kids did not stop spelling MS with '$' already, i mean, can you get any lamer than that?

Idk, it could be pretty bad for people that actually like MSW and want to use it more than any other program out there.

Screw notepad

that would still be pretty awesome for them. most small companies like them dream of being bought out by a larger competitor. it's a big pay day for them.

also, people who have Word already will still be able to use it. and if you want it, just pirate it lol.

Yea whatever this case might achieve, its not going to take the word that's already on our computers, or the cd's that let us install it.

The problem with M$ (Go spend time on Xbox forums, everyone calls them M$ because that is what they want, more money) buying them out now is they are going to have to spend WAY more than they would of before. Now the smaller company will hold out for a TON more money than they are actually worth.

Not defending Microsoft, but that is the the point of being in business. Also the patent is so vague and general that chances are Microsoft will win the case and not have to buy them out.

Yes but they don't care how they get it. Even if their product is out with tons of bugs they will still release it because they will know it makes money.

I personally use Open Office for my Office-suite needs, however, at work, we use Microsoft Office, and if the sale of Office (or Word for that matter) is hindered, then that event will hinder our process. Then again, Open Office will get more attention. This will not be the end of the world.

And I agree with the second article. Word will not die.
